SRT subtitle validator

Validates SRT or WebVTT subtitles for numbering, timecode syntax, overlaps, and encoding damage, then produces a repaired copy to download.

0 bytes · up to 2 MB

Paste a subtitle file and press Validate and repair.

The repair drops only what a player cannot read: cues with broken timecodes, empty cues, cues that end before they start. Everything else stays, with overlaps trimmed to the gap you set, SRT numbers run back to 1, 2, 3, and the milliseconds separator converted for the chosen format. What it does not do: spell checks, line-length or reading-speed checks (the sibling tools cover those), or frame-rate snapping. Encoding damage is read from the text you hand it, so pasted text cannot show byte faults the way a file open can; the browser already swapped invalid UTF-8 bytes for replacement characters on the way in.

Checks and repair

Milliseconds of quiet left between cues when an overlap is trimmed, 0 to 5,000
Output format
Line endings

Two frames of gap is 80 ms at 25 fps, about 83 ms at 24 fps. Zero keeps overlapping cues back to back. The repair never invents timing; it only trims, renumbers, and cleans.
