This browser can't re-save MP4 and MOV videos, so they can't be compressed here. WebM and MKV videos always work, re-saved at the quality you pick. You can load a core for this, or convert it to WebM first.

Long video? A shorter or smaller one holds up better at this size, so trim it or resize it first.

Discord's upload limits

Discord raised its free limit from 10 MB to 20 MB in August 2026, so older guides that say 10 MB are out of date. These are the per-file limits as of November 2026. If the app refuses a file, go by the number it shows you and type that here.

What 20 MB gives a clip

Bitrate is file size divided by length, so shorter clips get more data per second. These figures count picture and sound together.

30 seconds5.3 Mbps. Plenty for 1080p. Video tops out at 5 Mbps here, so the file may land under the limit.
1 minute2.7 Mbps. Good for 720p, and fine at 1080p if little moves.
3 minutes0.9 Mbps. Resize it to about 480p first.
10 minutes0.27 Mbps. Too little for most video, so trim it.

Game clips and fast motion

Fast motion is the hardest thing to compress. A game clip or a shaky phone shot breaks into blocks at a bitrate where someone talking to the camera still looks fine. Cut it down to the moment you want to show before anything else. Taking a 3 minute clip down to 1 minute triples the data per second, and no setting here helps as much.
