Probes decode support for common containers/codecs and record/encode support for the MediaRecorder formats. Everything is asked locally, no file is downloaded, nothing plays out loud.

Rules this tool follows
  • decodingInfo's powerEfficient/smooth are PREDICTIONS from the engine's hardware database, not measurements. A green row means “the browser expects it to play well”. The plan's rule is that this page never equates the answer with guaranteed smooth playback.
  • canPlayType answers "", "maybe", or "probably": three grades of hedging. The matrix records the decodingInfo verdict where the API exists and falls back honestly where it does not.
  • MediaRecorder.isTypeSupported lists containers/codecs the browser can ENCODE from a live stream; the recording tools' own picker consumes this list.
  • Probes run only on your press; results live in this page’s memory and nothing is sent anywhere.
