The video is read straight from the instance that hosts it: its API lists every progressive MP4 and HLS variant it stores, with resolution and declared size, and the highest-quality row with sound is marked as the default pick. Nothing passes through a server of ours.

Honest limits: there is no ffmpeg merge and no audio transcode here, so the best-quality pick is the highest-resolution file the instance itself lists with both audio and video, and HLS-only videos are limited to the fragmented MP4s behind the playlist. Private, unlisted, and password-protected videos are refused; only public videos on federated instances work. Download only videos you own, that are openly licensed, or that you have permission to save.

The link is read directly: the instance host comes from the URL, the video API is queried at /api/v1/videos/<id>, and the file comes from the instance itself. The API probe is capped at 15 seconds and 4 GB per download, with at most 60 formats listed per video.

What leaves your browser

The browser fetches the PeerTube instance named in your link: its video API and its file server. Every request is built from the link you pasted. This page leaves your browser only when you press the button; never on load, never in the background. Nothing is sent anywhere else. Google Analytics still measures the visit to this page, and it never receives what you run through this tool.
