Employee Break-Time calculator

Computes net paid hours for a shift after paid and unpaid breaks, with a spread-out break plan and rest-between-shifts checks.

Breaks logged, one per line

Two or three comma separated fields per line: break in, break out, and an optional paid or unpaid mark. Times are HH:MM on the 24-hour clock; an end at or before the start of the shift means the shift crosses midnight once.

0 break lines · up to 20,000 characters

This tool applies your policy numbers, which may differ from the law where you work: no award, contract or statute is looked up, and nothing here is legal advice. Rest between shifts is measured on the clock alone, so it reads 0 to 24 hours and cannot see dates. Where a paid and an unpaid entry overlap, the unpaid entry wins, and break times resolve onto the shift by their offset from the shift start. The break plan rounds its times to the nearest minute and assumes you take breaks in the order shown.

Shift and policy

Unmarked break lines follow this switch; a line can still say paid or unpaid

Up to 100 break lines per run, 200 characters a line. Lines starting with # are comments.

More settings▾

Up to 20 planned breaks. The plan spaces work segments evenly and puts the main break first; leave the planned-breaks field empty for no plan.
