Morse code translator

Translates text to International Morse and back per ITU-R M.1677-1 and plays it as tone or flashing light at a chosen speed.

Report a problem

Type text or paste morse to translate it.

The tables follow ITU-R M.1677-1: letters, digits, and the standard punctuation. Inside a letter one gap separates elements, three separate letters, and seven separate words; one dot is 1.2 seconds divided by the character speed, the PARIS convention, and Farnsworth timing spreads the difference between the two speeds over the 19 spacing units of PARIS. Parenthesis codes differ between references, so a bracket you paste may decode as the other one. Playback is sound from your browser and a screen flash; there is no on-air keying, no sidetone mixer, and no prosign keyboard here.

Input

Type text, or paste dots and dashes; detection sorts the direction
Direction
Adds ! ; & $ _ to the table, on and off the air by habit rather than by M.1677-1

Empty boxes keep the defaults: character speed 5-60 WPM (default 15), overall speed 1-60 (default 10), tone 200-2000 Hz (default 600). Overall speed below character speed stretches the gaps, Farnsworth style.

Input stays within 20,000 characters. Translation runs in this tab; nothing is uploaded.
