A definition is a parenthetical pair: "digital subscriber line (DSL)" or "DSL (digital subscriber line)". The expansion only counts when its word initials reproduce the term, so a remark like "API (see chapter 4)" is never mistaken for one. With the toggle off, tokens that read as Roman numerals (II, IV, MIX) are skipped, and LCD stays because it is not one.

A term is a token of two or more uppercase letters, so HTML5, U.S.A, and R&D qualify, and lowercase endings fold plurals like APIs into API. Runs in this tab, not in a worker.
