HTTPS checker

Probe a domain over plain HTTP and HTTPS side by side and report whether HTTP redirects to HTTPS.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Press the button to check both addresses

Nothing leaves this page until you do. A site that answers on both and sends HTTP to HTTPS is the shape you want.

Both statuses are first answers at check time, from this project's proxy and its network position. The HTTPS answer says nothing about certificate health beyond reachability; the certificate itself is not inspected. Where the HTTPS checker gives a verdict, the HTTPS Redirect Checker shows the whole chain.

Domain

Up to 2,048 characters

Type the bare domain, no scheme. Two GETs go out, one over http:// and one over https://, neither following redirects, so the redirect is reported rather than consumed.

What leaves your browser

The domain you type is fetched twice through this project's capped proxy server, once over plain http:// and once over https:// (GET only, public hosts only, size and time caps, rate-limited), because a browser page cannot request the plain http address itself. This page leaves your browser only when you press the button; never on load, never in the background. Nothing is sent anywhere else. Google Analytics still measures the visit to this page, and it never receives what you run through this tool.
