Connection test

Measure latency and jitter to this site with the median of several cache-busted probes, first sample discarded, alongside the browser's own connection report.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

What this measures, and what it does not

The button times several small requests from your browser to this site and reports the median round trip plus jitter. It does not measure bandwidth; the speed test tool does that, and this page deliberately does not pretend to.

Latency here is the round trip from your browser to this site's server, wherever that sits; it says little about a game server or a video call to somewhere else. Jitter is the mean swing between consecutive probes, and it matters more than the median for calls: a steady 60 ms beats a jumpy 30 ms. The measured numbers come from timed fetches this tab performs; the browser's own connection type, downlink, and round-trip estimates come from the Network Information API, which Chromium exposes and most others do not, so those fields are marked Not reported rather than estimated. Nothing here measures throughput, and no probe is fired until you press the button.

Probe setup

Probe countThe first probe is discarded; it carries the handshake

3 to 30 probes. Each one is a small cache-busted fetch to this site, timed from request to first byte.

What leaves your browser

Each probe fetches one small static file from this very site, so the traffic never leaves the connection your browser already has open to here. No third party is involved. This page leaves your browser only when you press the button; never on load, never in the background. Nothing is sent anywhere else. Google Analytics still measures the visit to this page, and it never receives what you run through this tool.

Runs on this device. Nothing is uploaded.
