Purchase order number generator

Designs a purchase order numbering pattern and issues bulk numbers with prefixes, date parts, zero-padded sequences and optional check digits.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter a pattern to issue numbers.

A check character catches typing slips, not forgeries: anyone can recompute it, so it proves a number was typed whole, never that it was authorized. Duplicate detection only sees the history you paste into the box, so keep exporting your issued list between runs. Everything stays in this tab.

Numbering scheme

Tokens: {PREFIX} {DEPT} {SUP} {YYYY} {YY} {MM} {DD} {FY} {FYY} {SEQ:5}. Up to 120 characters.

Case
One per line, up to 100,000 characters. Duplicates get flagged, not removed.

Up to 500 numbers per run. {FY} names the financial year for the calendar year it starts in, so a March date lands in the previous year once the start month has passed.
