Test your microphone

A live level meter over the real stream — speak and watch the level, read what the track reports, switch inputs. The request fires only when you press Start; nothing is recorded.

Level meter

The level is computed from the raw analyser samples in this tab — RMS in dBFS with a -100 floor, mapped to a 60 dB meter window. Nothing is recorded and nothing leaves the page; stopping the test closes the AudioContext and stops every track.

Rules this tool follows
  • The level is computed from the raw analyser samples in this tab — RMS in dBFS with a -100 floor, mapped to a 60 dB meter window. Nothing is recorded and nothing leaves the page; stopping the test closes the AudioContext and stops every track.
  • The browser almost always processes the stream (echo cancellation, noise suppression, AGC — see the settings readout). This meter shows the processed signal, which is what an app would receive.
  • Every state has its own message: denied or dismissed (with the address-bar fix), no microphone found, input held by another app, insecure page, unsupported browser.
  • The meter bands are about signal health, not microphone quality — a "quiet" verdict in a silent room describes the room, not the hardware.
