GraphQL query complexity estimator

Parse a GraphQL operation with fragments and estimate depth, alias count, and weighted cost against limits you set.

Paste an operation to estimate its cost.

The cost model here is a convention, not a GraphQL standard. Each field costs its weight, and every list multiplies the work under it: cost = weight + list size x the cost of the subselection, and the total is the sum over root fields. List sizes come from a first, last, limit, count, or take argument resolved through your variables, then a Type.field[] rule, then the assumed list size. Paste the schema SDL when you can: with it, lists and leaves come from the schema and every field is checked against its type; without it, a field counts as a list only when an argument or rule sizes it. Unions are costed once through their typed fragments, not once per member. This is a static estimate of what the operation asks for; it does not know your resolvers, and no server was contacted.

Operation and weights

Query, mutation, or subscription with fragments, up to 20,000 characters
Optional, but it is what makes list detection and field checks exact
Fields with a selection set
Scalar and enum fields
Used when no argument or rule sizes the list, 1 to 10,000

One per line: Book.reviews = 3 or Book.reviews[] = 50, up to 10,000 characters
Values for $variables in size arguments
When the document holds several

Limits cap the verdicts: cost up to 10,000,000, depth up to 100, aliases up to 1000. Weights run 0 to 1000. The SDL ceiling is 100,000 characters, the variables ceiling 5,000.

Everything runs in this tab from the text you pasted; nothing is sent anywhere.
