CSS grid generator

Lay out a CSS grid by typing track lists or painting named areas, then copy the container CSS, per-area rules, and an HTML skeleton.

Paint the areas

One row per line; painting keeps this text in sync
Click a cell to paint it with the brush; click again to clear it. A dot is an empty cell.

The preview is your browser's own grid engine fed the exact emitted values, so what you see is what ships. Validation refuses what a browser would silently drop: template-areas rows with different cell counts, an area that never forms a rectangle, and names that are not usable identifiers. Warnings call out anything the browser resolves on its own: implicit tracks when areas outnumber declared columns, and the fact that auto-fit and auto-fill decide their count at render time. Nothing about your layout leaves the tab.

Tracks and areas

Empty sizes to content
16px, 1rem, 0
16px, 1rem, 0
Justify items
Align items
Per-area classes are name__area

Track lists take lengths, fr, auto, min-content, max-content, fit-content(), minmax(), and repeat() with auto-fit or auto-fill, capped at 24 tracks per axis. Gaps take plain lengths.
