Australia BSB code finder

Checks the six digit BSB shape, decodes the state digit, and names the institution from a bundled list, for one code or a batch.

BSB, or one per line

Prefixes bundled in this build: 01 ANZ, 03 Westpac, 06 Commonwealth Bank, 08 National Australia Bank, 11 St George (Westpac group), 12 BankSA (Westpac group), 33 St George (Westpac group), 73 Westpac, 76 Commonwealth Bank, 78 National Australia Bank, 105 AMP Bank, 124 Bank of Queensland, 187 Macquarie Bank, 342 HSBC Australia, 484 Suncorp, 633 Bendigo Bank, 923 ING, 936 ING.

Six digits, XXY-ZZZ

Enter a BSB to check it.

A BSB carries no check digit, so this tool verifies the six digit shape, nothing more. The state digit decode follows the published convention (2 is NSW or ACT, 3 Victoria, 4 Queensland, 5 South Australia, 6 Western Australia, 7 Tasmania, 8 the Northern Territory and external territories); digits 0, 1, and 9 have no single meaning, since institutions assign them their own way. The institution name is a hint from a short dated prefix list, and an unknown prefix is answered "not listed here", never invalid, because real BSBs exist outside any short list. The three branch digits are shown as stored; branch names and addresses are not public data, and AusPayNet's BSB file is the only authoritative register.

Examples

One code or one per line, up to 200 lines of 20k characters, 64 a line. Dashes and spaces are ignored.
