Statistical power calculator

Run power analysis for t-tests, two proportions, correlation, and one-way ANOVA, solving for sample size, power, or detectable effect.

Report a problem

Pick a design to plan it.

This is planning arithmetic, not a replacement for a statistics review. The t tests run the noncentral t distribution under Student's equal-variance assumption; two proportions run Cohen's arcsine method, a normal approximation; correlation runs the Fisher z normal approximation; ANOVA runs the noncentral F with equal cell sizes and equal variances assumed. None of that covers clustered, longitudinal, or covariate-adjusted designs, unequal variances, or multiple comparisons, and the solver cannot warn you that an effect size is unrealistic. Achieved power lands slightly above the target because sample sizes are whole numbers. Computed in this tab; nothing is uploaded.

The curve plots power across sample sizes up to the answer, 8 to 60 points.

Sample sizes stay within 1,000,000 per group for t tests, proportions and correlation, and 10,000 per cell for ANOVA. Effect ceilings: d and h up to 10, r up to 0.99999, f up to 5. The effect size box is read on a 0 to 1 scale; proportions are typed in percent.
