Spare parts consumption calculator

Paste a part's issue history and set lead time, service level and costs to get safety stock, reorder point, EOQ and holding cost, with warnings when lumpy demand breaks the normal model.

Report a problem

Paste an issue history to size a stocking policy.

The steady rule is the classic normal model: safety stock = z × sample deviation × √lead time, reorder point = mean lead-time demand plus that stock. That model quietly assumes demand is roughly symmetric; spares issued a few times a year are not, so the lumpy mode drops the probability claim and stocks the worst observed period across the whole lead time instead. EOQ assumes consumption runs at a steady rate between orders, which lumpy demand also breaks. Everything is computed from the history you paste, in this tab; nothing forecasts future failures and nothing is uploaded.

Costs only feed EOQ and the holding cost line; the stocking rules themselves never read them.

Twelve or more periods of history make the estimates worth trusting. Numbers stay within ±1,000,000,000,000, histories within 1,200 periods, lead time within 100 periods.
