Z-Score to percentile

Convert between z scores and percentiles, get one or two tailed p values, and read the area between two z scores from a shaded curve.

Report a problem

Enter a z score or percentile to convert it.

The normal curve is computed in this tab: erf by its power series, the far tail by a continued fraction, and the inverse by the Acklam approximation with one refinement pass, so percentile-to-z round-trips close to machine precision. One honest limit: beyond about ±8.3 standard deviations the tail probability is smaller than a double can express next to 1, and it reads as zero even though the true tail is not. p values here are raw normal probabilities, not corrected for multiple comparisons, and this tool does not decide significance for you.

The helper converts a raw score to z with z = (x − μ) / σ once all three fields are filled in, and reports its percentile in the results. Everything stays within ±1,000,000,000,000.

z scores stay within ±40. The curve is effectively flat out there: the CDF has already rounded to 0 or 1 at double precision long before that.
