Transformer kVA size

Size a distribution transformer from connected load through diversity, power factor, growth, and target loading, snapped to standard ratings.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter a connected load to size the unit.

Every stage is shown so the assumption driving the pick stays visible. What this does not do: no derating for ambient temperature, altitude, harmonics, or cyclic loading; no fault level, inrush, or protection grading. Run those checks separately before committing to a frame. Insulation life is also thermally sensitive: as a rule of thumb it halves for every 6 to 8 K of extra winding hot-spot temperature, which is what the target loading number is really buying.

Connected load

Preferred rating series

Diversity stays within 0 to 2, growth within 0 to 200 %, target loading within 0 to 100 %, load within ±1,000,000,000 kW.
