Simulate withdrawals month by month to see when a corpus runs out, what remains, and the largest starting withdrawal that survives.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter a corpus and a withdrawal to simulate.

Every month is simulated exactly: the corpus grows at one twelfth of the chosen yearly return (converted the effective way or the nominal way, your pick), then the withdrawal comes out, with the step-up applied on each plan anniversary. When the balance can no longer cover a full withdrawal, what remains goes out as a final short payment and the plan is marked depleted. The survivor figure is the largest starting withdrawal that still completes every planned month, found by binary search over the same simulation.

What this does not do: no taxes on withdrawals, no exit loads, no dividend-stripping. The return is one flat average, but real funds deliver it in a sequence, and a bad early sequence drains a plan sooner than any average-rate model shows. A plan that never depletes here still depends on that average holding.

Effective converts as (1 + R)^(1/12) - 1 a month; nominal compounds R / 12. Timing changes the answer by a month's growth on every payment.

Money stays within ±1,000,000,000,000. The return sits between -90 and 90 percent, the step-up between 0 and 100. A currency symbol runs 4 characters or less.
