Surface area calculator

Pick one of nine solids, enter its dimensions, and get total and lateral surface area plus volume with the working shown.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Fill in the dimensions to measure the solid.

Every formula runs on full-precision pi and rounds only for display, which is why answers can differ in the last digit from textbook solutions that use 22/7. Scaling is worth watching: double every length and the surface area goes up fourfold while the volume goes up eightfold. What this tool does not do: hollow or open-topped variants (a bowl is not a hemisphere), wall thickness, composite solids, or any check that your real object matches the ideal shape.

Decimal placesDisplay rounding only; the math keeps every digit

Decimals shape the printed working, 0 to 6. Capacities use the exact definitions 1 litre = 1000 cm³ and 1 US gallon = 3.785411784 L.

Dimensions stay within ±1,000,000,000 cm. Cross-section sides must satisfy the triangle inequality, and a known slant must be longer than the radius or half base it leans over.
