Slope calculator

Find the slope through two points with line equations, percent grade, and angle, and convert back from a grade, angle, or ratio to a slope.

Report a problem

Enter two points, a rise and run, or one grade value.

Percent grade and angle in degrees are different scales, and mixing them is the classic mistake: a 100 percent grade is 45 degrees, not 100. Percent means rise per 100 of run, so 10 percent is one unit up in ten across. The 1:12 figure is the ADA ramp ceiling, and road signs quote percent. A vertical line has no slope at all, which is why the grade reads as infinite rather than 100 or any other number.

Slope setup

Mode

Numbers stay within ±1,000,000,000,000. Angles sit strictly inside ±90 degrees; at 90 the line is vertical and no tangent exists.
