Resistor tolerance checker

Check measured resistance readings against a nominal value and tolerance class to get per-reading pass or fail, deviation, and the nearest E-series preferred value.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter a nominal value, a tolerance class, and at least one measured value.

Pass or fail is arithmetic against the stated band; it is not a substitute for a calibration-grade meter. Readings near the band edge sit inside meter error, so treat marginal verdicts with suspicion. A batch where every reading sits on one side of nominal usually means a wrong reel or a meter that needs checking; readings scattered around the nominal are a normal batch.

The drift is priced from a 20 °C reference: ppm/K times the degrees away from 20 becomes extra allowed band, so marginal parts are judged fairly. Empty boxes price no drift.

Nominal and measured values accept schematic notation: 4700, 4.7k, 4k7, 470R, 1M2. A line that does not read is reported in place, never silently dropped. Letter codes are the IEC 60062 set: B 0.1, C 0.25, D 0.5, F 1, G 2, J 5, K 10, M 20 percent.
