Present value calculator

Discount a future lump sum or payment stream to today's value, with growing payments, annuity-due timing, and mixed compounding options.

Report a problem

Enter a lump sum, a payment stream, or both to discount them.

This discounts one future lump sum and one equal-spaced payment stream, treated as certain: no taxes, fees, default risk, or taxes on the growth, and no inflation adjustment here. Payments round to whole counts. For cash flows on irregular dates you need an NPV or XIRR tool instead; this one values a single side only, not a project's net position.

Compounding per year

Compounding can differ from the payment frequency; the engine folds both into one effective per-period rate, the same way a spreadsheet PV does. Growth compounds per payment period.

Money amounts stay within ±1,000,000,000,000, rates within ±100% (growth ±100%), the term under 100 years and 2,400 payments. The discount table keeps the first 240 payments; totals always cover every payment.
