Motor Full-Load current

Convert a motor's kW or horsepower rating into full load current for your supply, using entered efficiency and power factor.

Report a problem

Enter a rating and a supply voltage to get the current.

Full load current here comes from your entered efficiency and power factor, which is the honest way when you have the motor's data sheet. It is not the same number as the nameplate current or the NEC table current, which use assumed values for a whole speed and enclosure class. Cable sizing, overload relay settings, and breaker choice follow their own rules around this figure, and every loss between shaft output and electrical input turns into heat in the motor, which is why efficiency matters twice.

Ratings up to 1,000,000 kW or hp, voltages up to 1,000,000 V, numbers within ±1,000,000,000. One horsepower counts as 746 W.
