Midpoint calculator

Find the midpoint, distance, slope, and line equation between two points in 2D or 3D, plus the m:n section point and the opposite endpoint.

Report a problem

Enter two points to find their midpoint.

The midpoint is (A + B) / 2 on each axis, and the other formulas fall out of it: the missing endpoint is 2·M − A, the section point at m:n is (n·A + m·B) / (m + n), and the distance takes a square root, which is why it is the one number here that usually cannot be written as a clean fraction. A vertical pair has an undefined slope and prints its line as x = c instead.

m:n is the section formula: the point sitting m parts from A for every n from B, reported alongside the midpoint in every mode. 1:1 lands on the midpoint itself.

Decimals stay exact fractions, so 1.4 and 2.6 meet at exactly 2. Numbers stay within ±1,000,000,000,000 and 64 characters per field; m and n are whole numbers up to 1,000,000,000.
