Inflation impact calculator

Enter your own inflation rate and see future costs, lost buying power, and the real return after inflation, year by year.

Report a problem

Enter an amount, a horizon, and a rate to see what inflation does.

Nothing here is measured: the tool bundles no consumer price index and fetches nothing. You bring the rate, from a central bank target or a statistics office, and the engine chains it year by year. The buying power of idle cash is the amount divided by the chained price index, and the real return uses the Fisher equation, the nominal rate deflated by inflation. What it does not do: taxes on the nominal return, month-level compounding, or changing nominal rates over time. A savings rate below inflation still grows the balance while shrinking what it buys, so read the real return, not the balance.

The money and the rate

More settings▾

Different rate each year

One rate per line or comma separated. After the list runs out, the flat rate above carries the rest. Up to 100.

Rates sit between -100 and 1000 % a year; negative rates model deflation. The horizon runs 1 to 100 whole years.
