Future value calculator

Project a lump sum plus regular contributions to a final balance, with a paid-in versus growth split and a year-by-year table.

Report a problem

Enter a starting amount or a contribution to project the balance.

This projection assumes the same return every year, which real markets never do. It knows nothing about taxes, inflation, fees, or a bad decade, and the rate you type is a nominal annual figure: with monthly compounding it is divided by twelve each period rather than treated as an effective yearly rate. Growth on a long horizon usually outgrows the money you paid in, which is the honest appeal of starting early, but the table is arithmetic, not a promise.

Compounding per year

The step-up applies at each year boundary, so year 1 uses the contribution you typed, year 2 multiplies it by (1 + step-up), and so on. Leave it at 0 for a flat plan.

Numbers stay within ±1,000,000,000,000. The table covers 1 to 80 years, the rate runs 0 to 100 percent, and the step-up runs 0 to 50 percent. No rounding happens during the calculation; display rounds to whole currency.
