Flooring material calculator

Work out how many boxes of laminate, vinyl, or plank flooring and rolls of underlay to buy, with waste for diagonal and herringbone patterns.

Add a room to price the job.

Boxes and rolls come out whole because that is how they are sold, and whatever sits above your floor area is listed as spares for repairs. The waste defaults are trade habits of thumb: straight lays cut at the walls, diagonals and herringbone cut at angles and throw away more. What this page does not do: trims, skirtings, thresholds, subfloor flatness or moisture checks, batch colour matching (buy one batch and check the numbers on the packs), or a vapour barrier. Underlay is priced off its own overlap figure, not the pattern waste.

Plank counts and prices are optional; leave them out and the box and roll figures still work. Roll coverage 0 means underlay attached or not wanted, so the underlay rows disappear.

Numbers stay within ±1,000,000,000,000. Waste runs from 0 to 60 percent, underlay overlap from 0 to 50.
