Drywall calculator

Estimate drywall sheets plus screws, tape, and compound for a room, with sheet sizes, a waste factor, and an optional cost total.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter the room to take off the boards.

Sheets are counted by area with the waste applied before rounding, per surface, which is how estimators order but not how installers plan: sheet orientation, stud height fit, and the seam layout are yours to check. Openings subtract in full, so a small window you would board over belongs in the waste allowance instead. Fire, moisture, and acoustic systems change sheet counts, screw counts, and compound coverage, and none of that is modeled here. Prices cover materials only.

Blank rows are skipped, not guessed

The rules are the trade defaults: one screw line per stud, 0.37 ft of tape per square foot of board, 0.009 gal of compound per square foot. Every value is editable.

At most 50 opening rows of 50% waste, room sides up to 100,000 ft. Walls and ceiling are counted separately because offcuts rarely transfer.
