Decibel converter

Converts a level between dBm, dBW, dBu, dBV, and the other dB scales with matching power and voltage, and sums a gain chain.

This tool is in beta

Still being tested. If a result looks wrong, tell us.

Report a problem

Enter a level, a ratio, or a chain to convert.

The impedance is the bridge between the two halves of the page: dBm, dBW and dBuW describe power, the other four describe voltage, and neither makes sense against the other until an impedance is assumed. 50 ohms is RF practice, 600 ohms is the old broadcast line standard and the reason dBu is anchored at 0.7746 V. Stage gains in dB add because multiplying linear gains means adding their logarithms; levels themselves never add that way, so two 0 dBm sources mixed together are not 2 dBm.

What to work out
Scale
Needed whenever a reading crosses between the power and voltage sides
ohms

Levels sit within ±300 dB, ratios within 1e+24, impedance between just above zero and 10,000,000 ohms.
