CAGR calculator

Compute compound annual growth rate over years or exact dates, compare it with simple average growth, and project forward.

Report a problem

Enter a start value, an end value, and a period to get the rate.

CAGR is the single steady rate that carries the start value to the end value: end over start, raised to one over the years, minus one. It smooths the whole ride into one line and knows nothing about volatility, deposits or withdrawals along the way, taxes, or fees. The simple average growth is total growth divided by years, and it always reads higher than CAGR when the value grew; it is shown here because people quote it by mistake. The projection repeats the computed rate forward and is an illustration, not a forecast.

The projection assumes the same rate continues for that many years past the end value. It is an illustration, not a forecast.

Both values must sit above zero; a value can fall, it just cannot pass through zero. Date spans count real calendar days over 365.25, so leap years land honestly.
