Scale trainer

Learn and drill fourteen scales on a guitar fretboard or piano with correct note spelling, tempo playback, a note quiz, and optional mic practice.

Microphone practice

Press Start listening and allow the microphone. The trainer names the pitch it hears and tells you when it sits inside the trained scale.

Optional. Everything else on this page works without a microphone.

Spelling follows the key: each degree takes the next letter from the tonic, so G major runs G A B C D E F sharp, never G flat. Pentatonic and blues shapes reuse their parent scale's letters, and whole tone and diminished take the smallest accidental that keeps every letter distinct. Reference pitch is fixed at A 440, the guitar is drawn in standard tuning, and chromatic names outside the scale read as sharps. Practice progress lives in this tab and disappears when you leave; the microphone is analyzed a few times a second and is never recorded or uploaded. The tool does not transcribe melodies, teach songs, or follow alternate tunings.
