# Hiking time calculator

Plan a walk leg by leg with five published pacing methods, break time, and a sunset check, then compare what each method says.

Enter route legs to plan the walk.

These are published planning rules, not forecasts. Naismith assumes path walking at a steady pace; Langmuir assumes the descent angle is uniform across a leg; Tranter and the daylight check are single-day; Tobler is an empirical slope model from the 1990s. Snow, bog, navigation stops, and group size can double the real time. The "off" marker only changes Tobler's numbers because its paper carries an off-path factor; the other four rules have no term for rough ground, and the leg table says when you marked one they ignore.
