Contain letterboxes inside each square (transparent unless you pick a background: check the checkerboard preview); cover fills the square and crops the overflow. With upscaling off, both axes clamp to the source resolution, a small icon is never magnified. SVG sources rasterize at each target size straight from the vector, not at one frozen intrinsic resolution. The ICO packs 16/32/48 PNG frames with verified directory offsets; cancel stops between encodes, before the next frame starts.
