The two that lost pixels were the busiest: a food photo came out at 1,508 by 1,005 and a close-up of a flower at 1,310 by 1,310. A 12 megapixel phone photo starts out about twice as wide, so expect it to come down to somewhere around those sizes. Fewer pixels or lower quality The Use fewer pixels if needed switch picks which one gives way. With it on, the food photo was 1,508 by 1,005 at quality 60 or above. With it off, it stayed 1,920 by 1,280 and quality fell to 37. Shown at the same size on a screen, we could barely tell versions like these apart. Zoom in and they differ: fewer pixels look soft, and low quality looks blotchy. Turn the switch off when you need the exact size. You can run both and compare. How long 200KB takes to load A 200KB photo is 1.6 megabits, so it arrives in under a second on a 2 Mbps connection, plus whatever time the site needs. One photo in a blog post or a product listing is fine at this size. Ten of them add up to 2 MB, and at that point it's worth dropping to 100KB each.
