The PDF never uploads. Text is read in this tab with pdf.js and the Word file is written in this tab with the same open tooling the PDF tools use, then checked by reopening it before you get the download button result.

What this does not do: layout does not carry over. Images and scanned pages ship as nothing (a scan has no text layer), tables lose their grid and read as plain lines, columns and fonts and colors are gone, and a heading is recognized by a font-size rule that misses some and promotes some. For a scan, run OCR first; for exact layout, this is the wrong tool, and it says so rather than promising a perfect conversion.
