# Tile calculator

Count how many tiles a floor or wall needs from your area, tile size, grout width, and a waste allowance.

The count assumes a straight grid, one tile per footprint with the grout line shared between neighbours. A diagonal or herringbone layout eats far more than the waste slider can say, so raise the allowance well past 15 percent for those. The math also cannot check that your tile size divides evenly into the room: run the perimeter yourself or expect the edge cuts to be slivers.
