Your files stay on your device Power factor correction Size the capacitor bank that moves a load to a target power factor, with per-phase capacitance, released capacity, and bank steps. Enter the load and both power factors to size the bank. The formulas: Qc = kW × (tan(arccos pf₁) − tan(arccos pf₂)), kVA = kW ÷ pf, capacitance per phase from Q = 2πfCV² with a factor of 3 for the delta bank, line current falling by pf₁/pf₂ and I²R cable losses by its square. The kW never changes; only kVA and current drop. This is displacement power factor for a balanced load: harmonic distortion is not measured and a plain bank cannot fix it. A step suggestion from this page is a starting point, not a design; have a qualified engineer verify the installation against IEC 60831-1, IEC 61921, and IEEE 519.
