Your files stay on your device EV vs petrol savings calculator Compare electric and petrol running costs at your own prices and see annual savings, payback on the price premium, and a CO2 comparison. Enter a distance and both cars' numbers to compare them. Cost per distance multiplies out straight: consumption per km times price. What moves the answer most is where you charge and what your grid or supplier charges per kWh; a cheap home tariff with a high public-charger average can flip the result. The CO2 row prices the EV with your grid figure and the petrol or diesel car with standard tailpipe factors, 2.31 kg per litre of petrol and 2.68 kg per litre of diesel, so it counts exhaust plus electricity generation but nothing else: no refining, manufacturing, or battery-production emissions. Payback divides the purchase premium by the yearly saving and is a simple ratio, not a discounted one.
